Aditya Birla Group

The Aditya Birla Group is a multinational corporation based in Mumbai, India

with operations in 25 countries. The Aditya Birla group is US$ 29 billion

conglomerate. The group is a major player in all the industry sectors it operates in.

The Aditya Birla Group has been adjudged the best employer in India and among

the top 20 in Asia by the Hewitt-Economic Times and Wall Street Journal Study

2007. The origins of the group lie in the conglomerate once held by one of India's

foremost industrialists Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla.

Aditya Birla is organized into various subsidiaries that operate across different

sectors. Among these are viscose staple fibre, non-ferrous metals, cement, viscose

filament yarn, branded apparel, carbon black, chemicals, Retail (under the 'More'

brand of supermarkets), fertilizers, chemicals, insulators, financial services,

telecom, BPO and IT services. The Group consists of four main companies, which

operate in various industry sectors through subsidiaries, joint ventures, etc. These

are Hindalco, Grasim, Aditya Birla Nuvo, and UltraTech Cement.

The groups' non-ferrous metals are under Hindalco. It is a dominant player in

aluminum and copper. Hindalco makes alumina chemicals, primary aluminum,

rolled products, alloy wheels, roofing sheets, wire rods, cast copper rods, copper

cathodes and several other products.

Textile Business: The Aditya Birla Group is the world's largest player in the

Viscose Staple Fiber industry. It operates out of India, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia

and China. It owns the Birla Cellulose brand.

Telecom Services: Idea Cellular is now owned by Aditya Birla Group itself. Idea

Cellular started off as a joint venture with the group, AT&T and the Tata Group.

Apart from the above businesses, the group is a major player in industry sectors

like Insulators, Fertilizers, Insurance (Birla Sun Life Insurance), IT,

Chemicals, Mining, Sponge Iron, Financial Services and more recently, Retail.

Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group

Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group is a group of companies headed by Anil

Ambani. The companies under the group are:

Reliance Entertainment: It is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Reliance Anil

Dhirubhai Ambani Group spearheading the Group's foray into the media and

entertainment space. The key content initiative are across Movies, Music, Sports,

Reliance Communications along with Reliance Telecom and Flag Telecom, is

Sahara India Pariwar is an Indian multi-business conglomerate with diversified

business interests that include finance, real estate, media & entertainment, tourism

& hospitality, and services & trading.

Under its finance businesses Sahara operates in Parabanking, Life Insurance,

Mutual Funds and Home Loans sectors.

Under the flagship real estate project Sahara City Homes chain of townships is

proposed to be developed across 217 cities in India. Recently Sahara has launched

Sony

Sony Music Entertainment is the second-largest global recorded music company

of the "big four" record companies and is controlled by Sony Corporation of

America.

Sony Ericsson is a joint venture established on October 1, 2001 by the Japanese

consumer electronics company Sony Corporation and the Swedish

telecommunications company Ericsson to make mobile phones. Sony Ericsson

currently concentrates on the categories of: music, camera, business (web and

email), design, all-rounder, and budget focused phones. Its five largest

categories are - The Walkman-branded W series music phones, launched in

2005. The Sony Ericsson W-series music phones are notable for being the first

music-centric series mobile phones, prompting a whole new market for portable

music that was developing at the time. The Cyber-shot-branded line of phones,

launched in 2006 in newer models of the K series phones. The BRAVIAbranded

line of phones, launched in 2007 Japan market only. The UIQ

smartphone range of mobiles, introduced with the P series in 2003 with the

Sony Financial Holdings Inc. is a holding company for Sony's financial services

business. It owns and oversees the operation of Sony Life Insurance, Sony

Assurance, Sony Bank, Sony Bank Securities and Sony Life Insurance

(Philippines).

Lucky Goldstar (LG)

The LG Group is South Korea's third largest conglomerate that produces

electronics, chemicals, and telecommunications products and operates

subsidiaries like LG Electronics, LG Telecom and LG Chem.

LG Electronics is the maker of televisions and mobile phones.With its

headquarters in the LG Twin Towers in Yeouido, Seoul, South Korea, LG

Electronics is the flagship company of LG Group. The company has 75

subsidiaries worldwide that design and manufacture televisions, home appliances,

and telecommunications devices. LG Electronics owns Zenith Electronics and

controls 37.9 percent of LG Display.

LG Telecom is a South Korean telecommunications and mobile phone operator

launch a commercial 3G service using PCS technology.

LG Chem is a manufacturer, supplier, and exporter of petrochemical goods,

plastics, flooring and automobile parts. The Company operates three main

Mitsubishi

The Mitsubishi Group, Mitsubishi Group of Companies, or Mitsubishi Companies

is a Japanese conglomerate consisting of a range of autonomous businesses which

share the Mitsubishi brand, trademark and legacy.

The Mitsubishi company was first established as a shipping firm by Yataro

Iwasaki in 1870. In 1873, its name was changed to Mitsubishi Shokai.

They also diversified into shipbuilding, banking, insurance, warehousing, and

trade. Later diversification carried the organization into such sectors as paper,

steel, glass, electrical equipment, aircraft, oil, and real estate. As Mitsubishi built a

broadly based conglomerate, it played a central role in the modernization of

Japanese industry. The merchant fleet entered into a period of diversification that

eventually result in the creation of three entities:

Mitsubishi Bank was founded in 1919. After its mergers with the Bank of Tokyo

in 1996, and UFJ Holdings in 2004, this became Japan's largest bank.
