IIM B to manage recruitment at KSRTC
The Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore(IIM B) will now help the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to select its officers. This is perhaps the first time the premier B-school has been involved in such an exercise. This move aims at an increase in the transparency in recruitment and also minimizes any possible interaction between the corporation and candidates. IIM-B will evaluate examination papers of candidates of Grade 1 and 2 exams, which was scheduled for Sunday.

Herta Mueller wins Nobel prize in Literature 
Romanian born author Herta Mueller has won the Nobel prize in literature. Ms.Mueller belongs to Romania's ethnic German minority and was persecuted for her critical depictions of life behind the iron curtain. Her early works came under strict censoring in the communist regime. A collection of short stories titled "Niedrungen" marked her debut in 1982.

Obama awarded Nobel peace prize
In a surprising announcement made on Friday, the Swedish Nobel committee awarded US president Barack Obama the Nobel peace prize for 2009. The committee cited President Obama's work in nuclear weapons elimination and international diplomacy as the reason for the award. The committee's announcement has met with universal astonishment and also some amount of derision. Mr. Obama said he was honored and humbled by the committee's decision and that he did not deserve it but will accept the award.

First woman to bag an Economics Nobel
The Economics Nobel has been awarded to Americans Elinor Ostrom and Oliver Williamson for their work in economic governance. Ms. Ostrom is the first woman to have won the economics Nobel since its inception in 1968. According to the Royal Swedish Academy of sciences stated that Ms. Ostrom's work had demonstrated how common property can be successfully managed by groups using it. The Nobel prize winners will receive 10 million Swedish kronor($1.4 million), a gold medal and diploma from the Swedish king on December 10.

Manna Dey awarded Dada Saheb Phalke 
On the occasion of the 55th National Film awards music legend Manna Dey received the Dada Saheb Phalke award for his contribution to Indian films. President Pratibha Patil presented him with the honor in New Delhi on Wednesday.

NASA prepares to fly Ares I-X
NASA is preparing to replace the aging space shuttle with a rocket designed as part of the constellation programme. The 100m long- Ares I-X has a four hour launch window for blast off from the Kennedy Space Center. The test flight of this rocket will allow NASA to test technology critical for the development of the manned Ares I craft. The Ares I-X is also the longest and thinnest vehicle designed and constructed by the US space agency.
